Data View Restrictions
Data View Restrictions can be assigned to Administrators or to Workgroups to restrict viewing access to specific data fields in an Enterprise based on the combination of Job, Student Group, Category, or Organizational Unit of a student; the Supervisor/Subordinate relationship; and/or the Category for other objects in the Enterprise.
Data View Restrictions work like data filters. They can be used to restrict access for either students or content. For example:
- Administrators can only view those students whose combination of Job, Group, Category, and Organizational Unit match the filter set as a Data View Restriction for the Administrator or the restriction inherited by the WorkGroup assignment of the Administrator.
- Supervisors may only view data for their immediate subordinates or all subordinates of subordinates.
- Administrators can only view content categorized against a restricted content category.
If the Administrator belongs to an administrative workgroup or workgroups, the criteria restrictions from their workgroup membership will appear in the Inherited Groups field. Similarly if categories are associated to the Administrator through the workgroups, the associated categories will appear in the Inherited Category field.
It is recommended to assign data view restrictions and privileges using workgroups and not individuals, as it is easier to manage.
