Important definitions
Before getting started with building your content, it is important to define a few key terms.

Content object
This is a "chunk" of learning. It can be reused and either be stand-alone or combined with other content objects to create a bigger learning object (course). Think of it like an orchestra: a single musician can combine their own tools (instrument, seat, music stand) and play alone, or combine with other musicians to play a different way using the same basic pieces.
Content types
Each content object can be made up of various individual pieces. These pieces can be things like website links, exams, surveys, or other content objects. Each are classified into a type, which dictates how you can view and manipulate that activity. In our orchestra example, a type may be percussion or brass. They are groups classified together so we can specify them more easily.

Activity
A content object is made up of one or more activities. An activity is a piece of content that a learner must complete. A content object may contain one or more activities. For example, perhaps a content object around compliance training has three activities: an introductory HTML page welcoming learners to the course, eLearning content that was imported into the system, and an after class exam.
