Identifying data segment for employees and events

Customer administrators can define one category alias and designate it as the Data Segmentation Category. When configured, data segment is identified for each entity as follows:

• For employees, the category value for the key property category associated with the data segmentation category.
• For Work Events, the category value for the events category associated with the data segmentation category.

Note: Key properties store the employees’ current value for the associated property, while event categories store the same for the point in time when the event occurred.

Depending on how you want to segment your data, you may want to define a new abstract category exclusively for data segmentation. For example, if your organization is large and you want to segment data based on country and business unit, you can define a category called “Business Unit By Country” with category values that contain both country and business unit. For example: “US-Cars”, “Japan-Cars”, “US-Finance”, “Japan-Finance”.
