E-Verify
E-Verify is an internet-based system that compares information from your Form I-9, Employment Eligibility Verification, to Department of Homeland Security (DHS), Social Security Administration (SSA), and Department of State (DOS) records to confirm that you are authorized to work in the United States. Although participation in E-Verify is required of some employers, most employers participate voluntarily.
While SilkRoad Onboarding interfaces with E-Verify (through a web service), processing rules, procedures, and verification rules are dictated by E-Verify. If you have questions about E-Verify, visit https://www.uscis.gov/e-verify. You can search for answers and download the E-Verify User Manual.
Good to know
- E-Verify is an optional SilkRoad Onboarding feature. If you opt to have it, SilkRoad staff work with you to configure it.
- E-Verify is specific to I-9 data and uses Form I-9 attachments.
- You can have multiple E-Verify accounts for your SilkRoad Onboarding site. This is applicable if you have multiple Employer Identification Numbers (EINs). You can register each account with DHS through SilkRoad, who serves as your Web Services Employer Agent for E-Verify. A Memo of Understanding (MOU) and corresponding Company Client ID is generated for each account registration.
- A MOU is a legal document describing a bilateral or multilateral agreement between/among parties. It constitutes a legally binding contract when properly executed (i.e., signed) by all the parties. Employers who participate in E-Verify must sign the E-Verify MOU, the agreement between the employer, the U.S. Department of Homeland Security (DHS) and the Social Security Administration (SSA) and sets the terms of conditions of participation in the program.
